Challenge

Financial literacy is a significant challenge in Georgia, even for adults. Basic skills like saving, budgeting and money management are rarely taught in engaging ways, making it hard for kids to understand essential financial concepts. Bank of Georgia recognized the need to tackle this problem by focusing on the next generation. Still, the challenge was to develop an approach that would resonate with kids, spark their curiosity, and encourage them to actively engage in financial learning.

Solution

To overcome this challenge, we adopted a game-based approach, following psychologists' recommendations that children learn best through play. We created "Other Universe," a cosmic adventure game embedded in sCoolApp. Kids could create avatars and complete missions that taught essential financial skills like saving and budgeting, all while navigating a fun, interactive storyline. The educational content was deeply woven into the gameplay, making the learning process almost invisible. Now, kids are not just learning about finance but actively applying their knowledge.

Completing Missions

In Other Universe, kids are part of an exciting adventure filled with missions that make learning about finance fun and engaging. Each mission introduces simple, quick questions to get them thinking. After answering correctly, they unlock the Reveal window, where game character stories explain the financial concepts in a way that’s easy to understand.

As they move through the game, kids collect glitters—our in-game currency—to unlock new chapters. Each chapter brings new missions and character storylines to keep things exciting. With 80 fun tasks that combine financial knowledge and logic, kids stay engaged while learning valuable skills without even realizing it.

Setting Up Avatars

In Other Universe, kids can create and customize their own avatars. After moving to the new chapter, they unlock three sets of items to personalize and upgrade their avatars, adding a fun layer of creativity.

As part of our collaboration with the Bank of Georgia, the general sponsor of the Georgian Football Federation, we even included a special avatar option dressed in the Georgian national football team uniform—letting kids show off their team spirit while learning about finance.

Story Archive

Other Universe unfolds through a rich, continuous storyline, all stored in the game’s story archive. As kids complete missions, they unlock new chapters and gain access to the next part of the adventure that reveals more about the game’s characters and world.

Filled with vibrant visuals and fun animations, the storyline makes learning about finance feel like part of an exciting journey. So besides picking up essential financial skills, kids also get to be a part of this colorful, ever-growing universe, blending education with a playful adventure.

Built-in GPT

In the sCoolApp, ChatGPT is available as a separate built-in feature. While kids engage with the Other Universe game, they can use ChatGPT within the sCoolApp to ask questions and get instant answers, providing helpful guidance for general inquiries. This interaction helps children become familiar with artificial intelligence, and the feature also contributes to increasing the app’s monthly active users (MAU) for its built-in GPT functionality.
